LIMA A man led Lima Police Department officers on a short chase Saturday evening that ended with police finding a large sum of money.

Sgt. Dave Gillispie said officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding at 5:30 p.m. near Main and Kibby streets. The driver, James Allison, 25, did not stop, leading police to chase him to the 1400 block of East Elm Street, where he hit a utility pole, a tree and ran into the front porch of a house on Elm Street.

Allison attempted to run from officers but was quickly apprehended. Officers found him with more than $20,000. He was taken to Lima Memorial Health System for observation and then to the Allen County Jail. He has been charged with suspicion of felony fleeing.

Allison had a passenger with him, but Gillespie said he has not been charged with anything.
