BEAVERDAM — A Forest man struck the side of a semi truck Monday in Beaverdam after failing to yield at an intersection.

Curtiss J. Bowers, 47, of rural Forest, was driving eastbound on state Route 696 toward the U.S. 30 ramp. Meanwhile, Edwin G. Wendorf, 66, of Homer, Mich., was turning left from the ramp to state Route 696 and had a green light.

Bowers failed to turn onto U.S. 30 and drove straight through the intersection. Bowers struck the side of Wendorf’s semi. Bowers was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Beaverdam Fire and EMS. He was transported to Lima Memorial Health System. Bowers was not wearing his seat belt, and alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.
