LIMA — Josh Romney, son of presidential candidate Mitt Romney, will be the keynote speaker for the Allen County GOP Barbecue Rally next week.
The rally will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at UNOH Event Center. Tickets are $20.
Allen County Republican Party Chairman Keith Cheney announced the speaker just prior to Thursday night's debate.
"We have actually been working with the Romney campaign for a number of weeks to secure (Josh) Romney's appearance," Cheney said. "It's certainly a great opportunity for our attendees to hear Josh."
Cheney was happy to make the arrangement, explaining Josh Romney works on the campaign trail with his father but isn't often a keynote speaker.
"He has attended a number of rallies with his father," he said. "In this case, we'll be able to have Josh be the keynote, and that excites us."
Josh Romney is one of Mitt Romney's five sons. He is the founder of Romney Ventures, a real estate investment and management company in Salt Lake City. He also is a board member of the Deseret International Foundation, a group that works to establish healthcare in developing countries.
He worked on the Mitt Romney presidential campaign from 2006 to 2008, doing news interviews and giving speeches. He campaigned in every county in Iowa, according to his biography released through the campaign.
He earned a master's degree from Harvard Business School in 2005. He and his wife have five children and live in Salt Lake City.
Cheney was mum on whether Josh Romney would be joined by his father in Lima.
"We always hope that happens," he said.
