DELPHOS — A small explosion and brief fire outside a Delphos furniture store may have startled a few residents Sunday morning.
Delphos Police Department officers were called to Beckman Furniture, 151 W. Second St., in Delphos at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers discovered that an electric meter on the side of the business had exploded and caught fire.
It quickly died down, said Sgt. Dave Clark of the Delphos Police Department. He said it appeared the meter box blew.
A witness to the incident said that two people were seen running from the area shortly after the explosion occurred. But Clark said that doesn’t surprise him much because many people walk the canal in that area, and it doesn’t necessarily mean it was suspicious in nature.
The cause was still unknown Monday afternoon, he said.
