LIMA - Drivers going through the Harding Highway construction zone Friday evening saw more traffic delays than usual, after construction workers struck a natural gas line.

Bath Township Fire Chief Joe Kitchen said they were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to the intersection of Harding Highway and Interstate 75. Crews with Beaver Construction struck a gas line during a project excavation.

Dominion Gas crews arrived on scene and closed the road after high levels of gas were detected from manholes. Crews from Bath and Lima fire departments rerouted traffic on Harding Highway from Saratoga to Bellefontaine avenues until around 9:30 p.m., when the leak had been contained.

No one was injured in the incident.
