LIMA — Officials at the Ohio Department of Transportation are looking for feedback on a series of proposed projects over the next couple of years, including a project on West and Elizabeth streets in Lima planned for next year.

Rhonda Pees, spokeswoman for ODOT District 1 in Lima, said the comments were being sought in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act for the various projects. ODOT is involved in the projects because of federal funding that is involved in the projects.

“There are federal funds involved in the projects,” Pees said. “We administer those funds because of that to make sure we’re in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act we seek public comments on the projects.”

In Lima, improvements along Elizabeth and West streets are part of an ongoing, multiphase project to make traffic and air quality improvements in the downtown. According to ODOT information, those projects include making Elizabeth and West streets one way, one-lane operations between West Elm and West North streets and may include a new traffic signal at West Wayne and North Elizabeth streets. Elizabeth and West will be converted to two-way operations south of West Elm Street and north of West North Street.

Other Lima projects as part of the city’s multiyear effort include this year’s projects to convert Spring and Elm streets downtown to two-way traffic and future projects along Wayne and High streets.

Elsewhere, ODOT is seeking comments on a proposal to create a safe route to school for Donnell Middle School in Findlay with the construction of a sidewalk/trail along Lima Avenue from Logan Avenue to Lake Cascades Parkway. In Van Wert County, the county engineer has proposed a bridge replacement on Harner Road over the St. Mary’s River.

Pees said anyone wishing to comment on the projects should contact Stacy Schimmoeller by phone at 419-999-6854 or email at stacy.schimmoeller@dot.state.oh.us.
