LIMA — One church community is coming together to help a fellow churchgoer in need.
Ann Dellinger has organized a benefit sale for a longtime family friend, Timothy Dunifon. Vendors include Scentsy, Thirty-One, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Avon, Premiere Designs Jewelry and Mama Swicky.
The sale is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5050 St. Matthews Dr., Lima, where Dellinger and Dunifon attend church services.
Dunifon, 60 and retired from Ford, has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The condition has progressed enough that he’s on the Cleveland Clinic lung transplant list, where Dunifon's been waiting more than a month for a donor. Dellinger said he’s a great person.
“He has a really dry sense of humor, he’s funny. Kind of quiet, and he just loves children, babies. That’s why he’s so close to his grandchildren,” she said.
Dellinger said, as a Premiere Designs Jewelry salesperson, she initially thought of throwing a party to benefit him. But she thought involving more organizations would be even better. She is asking each vendor to donate a portion of its sales for Dunifon, to pay for his medical, transportation and lodging costs.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is matching the donations, up to $1,000.
Dunifon’s wife, Vicki, has been commuting back and forth to Cleveland for more than a month while her husband is on the lung transplant wait list. Dellinger wants to do anything she can to curb those costs.
In addition to the vendor sales, there will be a silent auction, a bake sale and lunch. Silent auction items include movie tickets, a Mary Kay basket and a 3-foot handmade wooden cross.
Another benefit for Dunifon is planned at Allen East High School from 4 to 6 p.m. May 4. The $8 banquet dinner includes BBQ beef brisket and pork tenderloin. There also will be a silent auction and bake sale at the event. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans again will match donations.
