LIMA — A local Menards manager faces felony charges of grand theft after being accused of embezzling company funds, according to a report from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy Bart, manager of the Menards located at 2614 N. Eastown Road, Lima, was arrested Saturday on the charge and taken to the Allen County Jail, Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish said.
Bart allegedly stole more than $20,000 over a six-month period, according to the report.
According to the report, Bart “processed fraudulent returns for a monetary loss to the store,” but Crish said detectives continue to look into the accusations.
Crish said during the next few days, detectives will investigate the claim. After they finish that investigation, they will turn over their findings to the Allen County prosecutor if necessary.
“Maybe later on tomorrow, we’ll have more information about what really happened,” Crish said on Monday. “It’s a felony, so we will be investigating it and then possibly presenting it to the prosecutor’s office.”
A spokesman for Menards corporate headquarters, Jeff Abbott, said he could not comment on Bart’s situation.
”We are unable to comment, as this is a police matter,” Abbott said in an email Monday afternoon.
Bart could not be reached for comment Monday.
Crish said Bart made bond and is not currently incarcerated.
