LIMA — The banners are hung; the windows are washed. Parking, transportation, security, hospitality is all set. Heck, even umbrellas for expected rain, sleet and snow have been thought of.

Lima is ready for its State of the State visit. The community will host a joint session of the Ohio General Assembly on Tuesday, and community officials held their last planning session Friday, crossing their T’s and dotting their I’s.

Gov. John Kasich will speak Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Civic Center, but before that 25 cabinet members will be in the region. Memorial Hall will see a legislative luncheon, and legislators will hold committee hearings at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Apollo Career Center.

Community officials and Police Chief Kevin Martin are urging residents to leave extra time for travel Tuesday, as they expect heavy traffic downtown, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Many people have come together quickly to make the day a success, Mayor David Berger said Friday.

“Lots of people have been generous with their treasure, time and energy,” Berger said.

Several of Tuesday's events will be private meetings and tours. However, two legislative committees are holding hearings open to the public: The House Health Committee will meet at 1 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, and the Joint House and Senate Workforce Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at Apollo Career Center.

Those receiving State of the State tickets available to the public were notified Friday. The speech is scheduled to begin between 6:30 and 7 p.m. It can be viewed on PBS and online at www.ohiochannel.org.
