LIMA The area in front of the Lima Police Department is becoming a hot spot for bizarre activity.

The latest happened when a deer ran into a glass-windowed door at a vacant business across the street from the department at 106 E. Market St. The glass shattered but did not fall.

The deer bounced off the glass and ran south. Officers were unable to locate it, said Lima Police Maj. Chip Protsman.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. Wednesday. There were no reported injuries.

On March 27, a man called officers outside the Lima Police headquarters and stabbed a police sergeant in the head. The sergeant shot him to stop the attack. The mans case is pending in criminal court.

The deer incident, although uncommon, is not unheard of. Protsman said police receive a couple calls a year about deer running around downtown. Somehow, he said, deer find their way into the city.

When that happens, police try to locate the deer to make sure its healthy and usually let the deer find its way out of the city.

We dont chase it. Hopefully, it will go back to where it came from, Protsman said.

If a deer is injured, he said, a game warden is called in to handle it unless its an immediate danger to people.
