OTTAWA — A former Continental teacher pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of rape, each carrying a possible sentence of life in prison.
A sentencing date for Jeffrey Perry has not been scheduled. While there are chances for parole should Perry receive consecutive sentences, meaning he must serve one completely before starting another, he likely will be in prison until he dies, said Todd Schroeder, an assistant Putnam County prosecutor.
Perry, 55, pleaded guilty to three counts of rape of a child with specifications he used force or the threat of force. All other charges were dropped in two cases against him, and the prosecution will not pursue any further charges, including from evidence collected during a search warrant this month, Schroeder said.
The dismissed charges including child pornography-related crimes, Schroeder said.
Perry raped the child at his home while he was watching the child, Schroeder said.
Perry was an industrial arts teacher at Continental. His crimes, which took place between 1995 and 2011, did not involve a child at the school and took place at his home, Schroeder said.
The child was between the ages of 6 and 14 at the time of the crimes.
A charge involving the receipt of child pornography remains pending in federal court in Toledo.
