Local data on black female teenagers to be released

LIMA Data collected from a survey of 74 local black female teenagers will be shared with the community from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 in the Rose Marie Duffy Lodge at the Girl Scout Center, 1870 W. Robb Ave. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Anyone can attend.The teenagers took part along with peers from Columbus, Dayton and Akron in “Rise Sister Rise: Evaluating African American Girls’ Experience of Trauma and Resiliency in Ohio’s Communities.” Four-hundred girls were surveyed on an array of things, including relationships, aspirations, school, sex and drinking and drug use. A select group of community members will participate in an afternoon dialogue on the results released earlier.The project is a partnership between the Ohio Department of Mental Health, WomensWorkfcf, Inc. and Mental Health America of Summit County.For registration and information, call 419-228-5482 or e-mail Julia Nunez at snunez@woh.rr.com.
