LIMA — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held recently for Ethan Phillip Degen, an eighth-grader at Bath Middle School. He is the son of William and Susan Degen, of Bath Township.

Degen has earned 25 merit badges during his Scouting career. He has held various leadership positions including patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and historian. He is in the Order of the Arrow and attended the national youth leaders training.

Degen is involved in track and band at Bath Middle School.

For his Eagle Scout project, he planned and restored a horse-drawn road grader. Ethan had it sandblasted and the troop painted it and brought it to the Township House and landscaped a permanent place for it. It took a total of 72 hours. This sits in front of the township garage.

Ottawa Chevrolet gives to YMCA Youth League

OTTAWA — Ottawa Chevrolet is partnering with the YMCA Youth League in Ottawa to provide new equipment and a monetary contribution to the youth baseball program.

This year marks Chevrolet’s Youth Baseball program’s eighth year.

Ottawa Chevrolet will present the YMCA Youth League with equipment kits with items including equipment bags, baseball buckets, practice hitting nets, umpire ball bags, batting tees and Chevrolet Youth Baseball T-shirts.

Sponsored leagues across the country will each receive 2,000 free sweepstakes entry forms to distribute within the community. At the end of the entry period, five winners, one from each region, will win their choice between a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu or Chevrolet Traverse.

In addition to its commitment to youth baseball, Chevrolet also is the official vehicle of Major League Baseball.

Tri-Moraine Audubon awards students

LIMA — The Tri-Moraine Audubon Society awarded four $25 gifts to students during the 2013 Ohio Academy of Science District Science Day held at Ohio Northern University.

Jeremy DeMuth, a seventh-grader from Miller City-New Cleveland School won for his project, “Effect of a City Wastewater Treatment Process on Bacterial Levels in Wastewater.” Kristen Ellerbrock, an eighth-grader at Glandorf Elementary School, won for her project, “Effect of Color on Sparrow Attraction.” Matthew Ketner, an eighth-grader at Glandorf Elementary School, won for his project, “Phosphorus Contamination in the Blanchard River.” Hannah Maxwell, sixth-grader who is home schooled, won for her project, “Which Types of Birdseed Do Birds Prefer?”

Judging of entries for Tri-Moraine awards was done by Dr. Jay Mager, ONU Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences. Dr. Nancy Woodley and Dr. Leslie Riley from the Department were the organizers of the assebmly and also assisted Mager in his determination of potential Audubon awardees.

Auglaize County Historical Society host event

WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Historical Society and historical societies and organizations from across the county will host “Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown” from noon to 5 p.m. May 4 and 5. The event is open to the public.

Participants will be provided a “Passport to Auglaize County” that is signed by the staff at each site and turned in at the last stop visited that weekend. Those who visit at least seven of the 12 sites during the weekend will be eligible to place their signed passport in the drawing for prize packages. The cards will then be placed in a drawing for prizes.

Participating sites include the Mooney Museum, in St. Marys; Wapakoneta Museum in Wapakoneta; Cridersville Historical Society Museum, in Cridersville; Minster Historical Society Museum in Minster; New Bremen Historic Association in New Bremen; New Knoxville Historical Society in New Knoxville; Uniopolis Historical Society in Uniopolis; Fort Amanda on state Route 198, 0.25 miles south of Fort Amanda Road; Bicycle Museum of America, in New Bremen; Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta; Bloody Bridge, state Route 66 north of St. Marys at Bloody Bridge Road; and the Miami-Erie Canal Heritage Center, in New Bremen.
