LIMA — Facebook users helped the Lima Police Department identify three women who stole a cart full of groceries from the Allentown Road Walmart last week.

LPD posted about the incident on its Facebook page Tuesday morning, along with screen shots from Walmart security cameras. The women’s identities and whereabouts were not immediately available Tuesday evening.

The theft took place around 4:50 p.m. May 7 at 2450 Allentown Road. The three women involved were caught on Walmart security cameras at the store’s exit and parking lot. The first woman pictured pushed a cart overflowing with groceries out the door. Two other women walked out soon after; one of them had a smile on her face. The women were seen leaving in what appeared to be a Buick Century.

Since LPD created its Facebook page in November, the police department has been able to identify several crime suspects, often posting photos from security footage. Lima Police Chief Kevin Martin previously said the Facebook page has generated more buzz than he anticipated, and it has been a very helpful tool for the department.
