Bath Township firefighters responded to the kitchen fire just after 3 p.m. Monday at 3853 Harding Highway.

No was injured in the fire. However the family’s pets — a dog, cat and snake — died. The house sustained heavy smoke and heat damage estimated at $25,000, Bath Township Fire Chief Joseph Kitchen said.

The home is owned by Elizabeth and Jacob Hardesty. Elizabeth Hardesty arrived home from work to find smoke in the house and called 911. Firefighters had the fire out within 20 minutes and remained at the house for about two hours. The cause remains under investigation. The Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to assist the family.
