LIMA — The area’s high schools will get a boost thanks to a new digital sign at the city Municipal Building that highlights student accomplishments.

Mayor David Berger announced a community project Wednesday that will use $40,000 in donations for the “Celebrating Our Lima Community High Schools” digital sign. It will include information about extracurricular activities and accomplishments by Apollo Career Center, Bath, Elida, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Senior, Marimor, Perry Shawnee and Temple Christian high school students.

The project began as a way to highlight the 14 state championships that have been won by area high schools, Berger said.

“This is a fine example of what we don’t know about ourselves that’s worth celebrating,” Berger said.

Berger hopes more funding can be raised to place more signs around town.

“This is a messaging opportunity for our area schools,” Berger said. “The programmable sign will serve as an informational tool keeping the community informed of the many different activities taking place in our schools and city of Lima.”

The sign will be located in the lawn on the western side of the Municipal Building, on Town Square.
