COLUMBUS — A trip to Washington, D.C., for a group of Bath Middle School students was delayed Wednesday morning when the bus carrying them was involved in a minor traffic accident.

Another vehicle clipped the mirror on the bus, causing the mirror to strike at least one bus window near Columbus. At least one window on the charter bus was cracked, said Bath Middle School Principal Brad Clark.

The bus continued along the route and later stopped to wait for the charter bus company to send a replacement bus from the Lima area, Clark said.

No one was injured in the incident, Clark said.

Eighth-graders and parent and teacher chaperones were on three buses that left for Washington just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Clark said.

On March 2, 2007, five Bluffton University baseball players and two adults were killed on a bus trip to a tournament in Florida. Clark said he thought of the Bluffton crash, even though the incident with the eighth-graders was minor.

“I’m sure that was going through parents’ minds last night,” he said.
