LIMA — A man whose partner in crime was shot to death while they tried to rob a man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday.Diondrake L. Sims II, 21, pleaded guilty last month to burglary in exchange for prosecutors dropping the more serious charge of aggravated robbery.Sims and Jyhno Rock, 32, broke into the home of Luther Ricks at 939 Greenlawn Ave. on June 30 to rob Ricks. Inside the house, Ricks confronted Sims and Rock. Ricks’ son, Luther Ricks Jr., came to help his father.The son was stabbed during the robbery and the elder Ricks broke free, grabbed a gun and shot Rock. Sims fled the scene and later turned himself in to police.The case gained publicity after police, and later the FBI, confiscated more than $400,000 Ricks had in a safe inside the home. Ricks was cleared of criminal charges over the shooting.Ricks never made a claim within the time period to have a hearing to argue why he should get back his money.Ricks said he and his wife saved the money over their lives and kept it in a safe inside their home.
