OTTAWA As much as 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into the Blanchard River on Saturday evening.

The Ottawa Fire Department was called about 10 p.m. for an odor investigation. With help from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Putnam County Emergency Management Agency, it was discovered that a tank near Williamstown Road and Sugarmill Drive in the Industrial Park had leaked the diesel into the storm sewer, which emptied into the Blanchard River.

Officials with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said the spill was contained and crews would soon clean the spill.

There is nohazard to the general public, officials said.
