COLUMBUS — Provisional numbers released Monday by the Ohio Department of Public Safety show fewer motorists killed on Ohio’s roadways this Christmas holiday.

During the reporting period, six people were killed, including one pedestrian, with two of those deaths attributed to alcohol. Last year 11 people lost their lives, with five attributed to alcohol.

This year’s Christmas holiday reporting period began Thursday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. and ran through Monday, Dec. 27, at 5:59 a.m. During this time, troopers and local police used high visibility enforcement to reduce fatal and injury crashes statewide.
