LIMA — Ohio State University football standout and Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George will be in Lima next month to speak at a scholarship dinner for OSU-Lima.
The 10th annual Spring for Scholarships Dinner and Auction will be held May 6 at the Knights of Columbus Family Center, 810 S. Cable Road. A special sponsors reception will be from 5 to 6 p.m., with doors opening for the dinner at 6 p.m.
A running back, George won the Heisman in 1995. He was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 2011.
George was the first-round draft selection (14th overall pick) of the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) in the 1996 NFL Draft. He earned rookie of the year honors and retired after nine NFL seasons in 2004.
George returned to OSU last fall as assistant vice president for business advancement. This is the first time he has been here for an OSU-Lima event.
“Eddie George is one of Ohio State’s most dedicated alumni and memorable athletes,” OSU-Lima Dean John Snyder said. “We are delighted that he has chosen Ohio State-Lima’s annual Spring for Scholarships event as one of his first visits to help raise funds for student scholarships.”
The annual dinners have raised nearly $300,000 for scholarships. Nearly 85 percent of students who attend OSU-Lima receive some form of financial aid.
Attendees must reserve a spot at the dinner by April 29. Various levels of sponsorship are available. They range from $50 to attend the dinner and program or $75 to attend the reception, dinner and program to $200, $500 and $1,000 sponsorships.
