FINDLAY - A Findlay man was sentenced Wednesday to 100 hours of community service for killing an ill kitten inside a city shelter.

Timothy Mompher, 30, changed his plea from not guilty to no contest to the misdemeanor charge in Findlay Municipal Court. He was charged with using a prohibited method of destroying domestic animals, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Judge Jonathan Starn found him guilty and ordered him to pay a $250 fine and court costs. The judge also sentenced Mompher to the maximum sentence of 30 days in jail, with 20 days suspended, and allowed community service in place of the remaining 10 days, according to the clerk's office.

Mompher was charged with cruelty after he euthanized a sick kitten Oct. 28 at Teddy's Rescue and Sanctuary, 12409 County Road 99, Findlay, by snapping its neck twice, officials said.

Mompher is a volunteer at the rescue where his wife, Susan, is employed.
