LIMA ó A man police are holding in connection with the slaying of his pregnant girlfriend traded jail days for fines Monday after pleading guilty to traffic charges.
Marquavius Shurelds, 22, pleaded guilty to driving under suspension, prohibited U-turn, tinted glass and not wearing a seat belt, all misdemeanors. The prosecution dismissed a drug possession and drug paraphernalia charge in exchange for the plea.
Lima Municipal Judge William Lauber fined Shurelds $630 but gave him 13 days jail credit in place of the fines.
Shurelds remains in custody on a probation violation. Lima Police have him under investigation in connection with the April 6 shooting death of Tara Cutlip, who was pregnant.
Shurelds and Cutlip had a child together, but itís unclear whether Shurelds was the father of the unborn child.
Shurelds has a probation violation hearing scheduled for May 20. Prosecutors are attempting to revoke his probation and send him to prison for up to five years. The violation is connected to a case which he had a gun under a court sanction.
