Mercer County deputy fired after OVI arrest

CELINA  Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey terminated a former DARE officer after 25-year deputy was arrested on a drunken driving charge.



Deputy Mark Germann served most recently as the courthouse deputy in Mercer County. He retired March 29 but wanted to continue to work, which he did until Grey terminated his employment.



A trooper with the Van Wert post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested Germann, accusing him of drunken driving. Germann refused to take an official breath test, Grey said.



“There is no dispute that Germann was driving the car and that he did take a portable breath test at the scene that tested his breath alcohol above the legal limit,” Grey said.



Grey said a deputy must be held accountable and he will not condone any sheriff’s employee driving under the influence.
