LIMA — Two Lima Police officers shot and killed an animal at Clock Tower Plaza early Friday, after it growled, showed its teeth and charged at passersby.
Lima Police were dispatched to the 900 block of North Cable Road around 3 a.m. Friday, after reports of what appeared to be a coyote roaming in the parking lot, near the old Walmart building and McDonald’s.
A police sergeant could not confirm whether the animal really was a coyote.
Police officers Nate Garlock, Jesse Harrod and Ben Thompson arrived on scene. A McDonald’s employee told police the animal had growled and showed its teeth. The animal later began to charge at officers. Officers went to their cruisers, and two of the officers at the scene shot the animal. It was not immediately unclear which officers had shot.
The city picked up the animal to dispose of it. The Allen County Dog Warden was also called. No one was hurt.
