LIMA ?? Volunteers from across the community have come together and have Lima ready for the State of the State spotlight.

Jed Metzger, president and chief executive officer of the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce, said the community has embraced the visit by Gov. John Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly. Multiple venues including Veterans Memorial Civic Center, City Club, Memorial Hall and others are ready to host their guests for the day, he said.

??There??s been a tremendous amount of work. The whole community has really pulled together from businesses and organizations and players the mayor has invited,? Metzger said. ??Everybody??s really working together, they want to make this a hospitable event one in which we can showcase our community.?

There will be a series of programs in and around the Civic Center complex, Memorial Hall and City Club. Metzger said volunteers and officials spent Monday making last minute arrangements and making sure all decorations and other arrangements are in place.

??It has been a lot of work. My staff has been working hard on it as has the Civic Center??s, Downtown Lima and Economic Development staff for example has been working on raising funds to do some of the amentities that we want to do here locally,? Metzger said. ??We??ve been lining up who??s going to be sitting at the tables, who??s coming to the receptions, name badges for everyone. It??s been endless.?

Metzger said it??s an opportunity to spotlight Lima and hopefully plant seeds for more opportunities in the future.

??It??s rewarding, and we should be very proud of this community that we??ve said this is a priority. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we want to make sure everybody knows their experience in Lima has been positive,? Metzger said. ??Hopefully, the long-term benefit as we go for other opportunities for our businesses or our community they remember Lima and that they had a hospitable experience and that might lead into some other resources we might have to develop our community and our businesses even further.?
