CELINA — Students at Wright State University-Lake Campus will be able to live on campus beginning next school year.

School officials broke ground on new apartments Monday, with work expected to begin this week. The first building, which can accommodate 32 students, will be ready for fall quarter.

The apartments will be located on land west of the campus. The land is owned by the Western Ohio Educational Foundation. The Foundation will finance the project through The People’s Bank Co. and will own the apartments.

“The Western Ohio Educational Foundation carried out the vision of on-campus apartments, making this dream a reality,” said WOEF Development Officer Tom Knapke.

Officials said the apartments are the next phase in continuing campus growth. They come after a $9 million construction and renovation project and several years of record high enrollment.

H.A. Dorsten Inc., of Minster, will manage the construction project.

The apartments will be accessed from Dibble Road and there will be parking for residents, as well as walking paths to academic buildings.

The furnished apartments will be townhouse-style. Each will have four to five individual bedrooms, a living room, full kitchen, washer/dryer, two bathrooms, and the first building will have lakeside view.

The Celina campus has about 1,500 students.

Students can request roommates, and the lease contract will be for three quarters or nine months. Room and board will be part of the bursar bill with the university. After financial aid is used to pay student’s tuition and fees, the remaining balance can be applied to room and board.

The housing applications are now available online for current Lake Campus students. Prospective students who are admitted will be able to apply March 1. Go to http://bit.ly/lakecampus.
