LIMA — Delphine Sackinger Cook’s church friends hope a benefit concert will raise money for her medical bills and boost her spirits.

“We wanted to do something to help raise funds for her and to give her moral support,” friend Linda McGregor said. “Music can be very soothing and uplifting.”

A benefit concert for Sackinger Cook, who has cancer, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 4400 Spencerville Road. The concert is free, but an offering will be collected to help with medical expenses.

Sackinger Cook, 53, has been battling cancer for several months, McGregor said. While it is unclear where it originated, the cancer is largely in her left abdomen. Chemotherapy treatments have left her very ill, often needing to be hospitalized after the treatments.

McGregor said her friend is no longer able to work and medical bills are growing. Doctors hope to try a new treatment, but her insurance may not pay for it.

The concert will include several church music groups, including the Calvary Worship Team, Amber Holbrook, of the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, and the Shawnee United Methodist band.

“There will be everything from traditional hymns to contemporary music to Christian rock,” McGregor said. “We really would like to see the building packed.”

Anyone not attending the concert but still wanting to donate should call 567-204-4305.
