LIMA - The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lima post is investigating a one-car, alcohol-related crash that occurred on Ada Road on Sunday morning.
Trever Hughes, 38, of Lima, was driving eastbound on Ada Road west of Interstate 75 at a high rate of speed around 9:30 a.m. Sunday when he entered a construction zone. His speed was tracked at 83 mph via radar, more than twice the 40 mph limit within the construction zone. Hughes remained driving at a high rate of speed even after a state trooper began to turn around to follow him.
Hughes failed to negotiate a curve near Fetter Road. He struck two mailboxes on the right said of the road, over-corrected and then his vehicle ended up in a ditch on the left side of the road. Hughes was ejected from his vehicle and his vehicle rolled over several times.
Hughes was taken to Lima Memorial Health System to be treated for his injuries.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Bath Township Fire and EMS assisted at the scene. The state trooper who saw Hughes in the minutes leading up to the accident had not yet activated his overhead lights, nor was he in pursuit of the suspect at the time of the crash. The state patrol is investigating the incident.
