Gas prices jump in region

The average price of gasoline jumped 25.2 cents per gallon in the past week, up to an average of $3.65 per gallon in Ohio on Sunday, according to OhioGasPrices.com.

Nationally, the average increased 11.7 cents per gallon to $3.62 per gallon.

In the Lima area, prices Monday morning were slightly lower than either of those, with prices $3.56 as a popular price. The lowest in Lima was $3.53, at several stations.

Prices were 30.3 cents per gallon higher Sunday than a year ago but 10.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago in Ohio.

"I suspect that the unrest in Egypt is playing a significant role in pushing crude values higher, and thus retail gasoline prices higher as well," Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, said in a press release.
