OTTAWA — Investigators in Ottawa were looking for clues to determine who broke into Ottawa Elementary School last week.

Richard Knowlton, the village’s police chief and safety director, said police officers were called to the school Thursday. A janitor coming into the school at the start of the day found a window had been broken out.

“There was student medication that was stolen from the nurse’s room and $200 to $300 was stolen from the cafeteria,” Knowlton said. “The individual also discharged a fire extinguisher in a hallway and in the nurse’s room.”

Knowlton said vandalism damage in the school was minimal.

Authorities have little additional information to go on, Knowlton said. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation assisted in processing the scene for potential evidence, he said.
