LIMA — The family of a Lima man killed in a motorcycle accident do not know how they are going to pay for his funeral.

Clarence “C.J.” Robinson Jr.'s family does not have the thousands it will cost for the funeral and to bury him. And frankly, they have a lot on their minds.

Robinson, 19, was out of work and had no life insurance. His girlfriend, Megan Copeland, is four months pregnant with their first child.

Robinson’s sister, Bianca Goss, said her brother’s death has devastated the family.

“I don’t want to believe it. My brother meant a lot to me,” Goss said. “In my mind it’s like he’s supposed to be here. He deserves to be here.”

But he is gone, and they cannot afford to pay for his funeral. The Cheryl Allen Southside Community Center is helping the family organize a fundraiser to try to cover burial expenses. Donations can be dropped off to Jones/Clark Funeral Home or the Cheryl Allen Center during the weekday. Checks should be made payable to Jones/Clark Funeral Home.

The crash happened Wednesday night. A vehicle traveling west in the 900 block of Faurot Street, near South Baxter Street, attempted to turn south into a driveway and pulled in front of Robinson’s motorcycle, which was traveling east on Faurot Street, police reported.

The crash remains under investigation. Police are waiting for lab results to see whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, said Lima Police Sgt. Paula Strickler. Strickler would not release the name of the driver.

Cheryl Allen Center Director Vickie Shurelds said the family should not have to worry about paying for the funeral when they should be grieving.

“You cannot understand what kind of loss this is especially if you are a parent,” Shurelds said.

Robinson used the Center as a child, Shurelds said, so his loss is hard for her and others at the center.

“We are asking for all of us to put our arms around this family,” Shurelds said.
