LIMA — When 59-year-old Letha M. Sansbury died Dec. 11, 2006, authorities were unable to contact any family members. As such, the Lima woman’s remains were taken to Chiles & Sons Laman Funeral Homes and later cremated before being released to her live-in boyfriend. That was the last time they were seen until Monday, when they surfaced in a pile of mulch at Wrightway Mulch, 700 Hanthorn Road.Exactly how they got there is a question officers of Lima Police Department would like to know.At about 4:15 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the mulching business by owner Aaron Wright.Police said a customer found the sealed cremains of Sansbury while getting mulch.“We were sent out there [to Wrightway Mulch] in reference to someone finding it. It was still in the container. If you know how those remains come, they were sealed, in the container like it comes from the crematorium,” said Sgt. Andy Green of the Lima Police Department. “A contractor or landscaper out there found them. We took them to the funeral home, Chiles & Sons Laman. ※ We’re not sure how they got there or how long they’ve been there. But it was still sealed so it wasn’t like someone dumped them.”At Wrightway Mulch, Green said, they have big piles of mulch for people to come and pick them up.“Somebody took it out there,” Green said. “We’re just not sure who. It was the only one we found. ※ Now we’re trying to figure out how it got there.”Green said he did not know if a crime were committed. Much of the case, he said, was still a mystery.Bob Laman, president of the funeral home, said their last record has the remains going to Sansbury’s live-in boyfriend. He said they did not have the boyfriend’s name and they were not able to find him because he no longer lives in the same place.“There’s no other family we can locate,” Laman said. “We’re trying to find someone to give them to.”Laman said the woman’s remains were cremated in Cridersville, at another funeral home that does cremations.
