WAYNSEFIELD — Brandon Bly plays sports almost year-round. The Waynesfield-Goshen High School freshman enjoys being part of a team. He played offensive and defensive tackle this year on the football team, and plays as center on the basketball team.“I like that it takes a lot of work, and you have to be committed as a team to win,” he said.In baseball, Brandon pitches and also plays first base. He has been playing baseball since he was very young.“My dad raised me up playing baseball,” he said. “It's another team sport — that's what I like.”In addition to these, Brandon is also on the track team. He has only been involved in track for three years, and he has learned to enjoy doing shot put and discus. He got involved to stay in shape.“I guess I didn't want to take time off and get out of shape,” he said.Brandon's favorite class is history.“I find it interesting to learn about things you don't know about,” he said. “Some things just seem to pop out at you.”Even though his favorite subject is history, Brandon has also distinguished himself in area spelling bees. He has been participating for the past five years and has placed every year but one. “I made it to regionals once, as well,” he said. “If you really want to do it, you have to really study. Even natural spellers — once you get to the county or regionals, you have to work hard at it.”In addition to school, spelling bees and sports, Brandon is also very involved in his youth group.“It's a combined youth group of three or four churches.” he said. “I go to New Hampshire United Methodist Church.”The youth group goes on several mission trips a year. Brandon has joined them for the smaller trips to help out. “I've only done the more local ones,” he said. “I haven't been out of the country yet.”While he has not made definite plans, Brandon is leaning toward becoming a doctor once he graduates from high school.“I guess people wanted me to be a doctor,” he said. “My grandpa was a doctor for 50 years, so that persuaded me in that direction. I do like to help people.”When he is not busy with sports or school, Brandon enjoys having Airsoft and paint gun wars with his friends.
