CELINA — A half-dressed man seen brandishing a gun was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon by a Celina police officer.
A 911 caller reported at 12:38 p.m. Robert Hensley, 39, of St. Marys, was wearing a cowboy hat, sandals and no shirt while walking on Market Street with a gun tucked into his shorts.
The caller said Hensley took the gun out of his shorts and waved it around but did not point it at anyone.
Patrolman Andy Regedanz, 33, reportedly confronted Hensley in the parking lot of Lake Shore Motor Sales, where shots were fired.
Hensley was hit, and Regedanz called for emergency medical personnel to aid Hensley. Regedanz was not wounded.
Hensley was taken to Mercer Health, where he died from his injuries. Regedanz is a 12-year Celina police veteran.
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said more information would be released as soon as an investigation is completed.
“Nothing else will be released as the integrity of the investigation needs to be preserved,” Grey said.
