LIMA -- The prosecution dismissed an insurance fraud charge Thursday against a former county employee accused of keeping her ex-husband on her health insurance policy after their divorce.
Crystal Balo, 31, is scheduled to stand trial Feb. 22 on grand theft by deception, a fourth-degree felony that carries up to 18 months in prison. Assistant Allen County Prosecutor Jana Emerick said she was dismissing the fraud charge because the evidence could not prove it.
Balo’s ex-husband, Steven Balo, 39, was convicted of misdemeanor insurance fraud. He was given a 60-day suspended jail sentence. He paid $5,634 in restitution.
Crystal Balo no longer works for the county. She was fired after an audit of the county’s insurance program.
