LIMA — Husky Energy will put a workforce of almost 1,600 to work on a maintenance turnaround at the Lima Refinery.

The refinery will run its regular turnaround beginning Thursday. This is a project taken on every five years to complete necessary maintenance and capital improvements. Spokesman Graham White said the turnaround is expected to take about 42 days.

“The turnaround duration is determined by a number of key jobs, including rebuilding a process unit furnace and doing extensive maintenance on critical ultraformer valves,” White said.

Seventy percent of the refinery’s units including crude, vacuum, ultraformer, gas plant, isocracker, gasoline hydrotreater, distillate hydrotreater, tail gas treatment unit (TGTU), and Claus I sulphur unit will undergo maintenance and capital work.

About 2,000 line items, including 1,500 pressure vessels and pressure relief devices, will be checked and, if required, replaced or repaired.

“A significant amount of capital work will be performed during the turnaround for environmental projects to further improve environmental performance,” White said.

Altogether, about 1,600 workers, including plant employees and independent contractors, will perform the turnaround. All contractors have already been selected, White said.
