LIMA ó Preliminary autopsy results are complete for the pregnant woman who was gunned down inside her home over the weekend.
Tara Cutlip, 21, died after being shot multiple times. The 7-month-old child she was carrying also died, Lima Police Lt. Jim Baker said.
Police are holding 22-year-old Marquavius D. Shurelds in connection with the Saturday slaying at1157 Bahama Drive. Shurelds and Cutlip had a child together. Itís unclear whether Shurelds was the father of the unborn child.
Shurelds is being held on outstanding warrants from other cases. He has not been charged in Cutlip's death. Any charges he might face could take some time.
ďAt this point, with what he has now, thereís no sense in filing anything because it does start the clock,Ē Baker said.
Baker was referring to a defendantís right to a speedy trial. Itís 90 days on a felony case, if in custody, unless a defendant waives that right. The prosecution could seek the death penalty in this case.
Shurelds is being held in Allen County Jail and could face up to five years in prison for violating his probation for having a gun under a court sanction from a 2010 case.
A probation-violation hearing may be the next time Shurelds is in court, sometime in the next few weeks.
