The combination of heat and humidity cause the body to struggle to maintain a normal temperature. The stress can cause heart and other medical problems.

How your body regulates temperature:

[image#1, align=left, size=medium]BRAIN: The hypothalamus is the bodyís thermostat. It determines when the body is too warm.

BLOOD: Blood vessels expand and the heart beats faster to increase blood ow. This carries the warm blood from within the bodyís core to the surface of the skin.

SKIN: The skin acts as a radiator, and sweat cools the skinís surface. High humidity inhibits evaporation of sweat and heat stroke can occur.†

Watch what you drink:

[image#4, align=right, size=medium]Do not drink liquids containing caffeine, alcohol or sugar, which will cause loss of body fluid.

[image#5, align=right, size=medium]Avoid extremely cold drinks. They may cause stomach cramps.
