DETROIT -- A former Lima Senior and University of Toledo basketball player’s sentencing hearing has been postponed again.

A new date had not been set for Sammy Villegas, who was scheduled to appear in a federal courtroom Monday to be sentenced for his role in a point-shaving scheme while he played for the Rockets during two seasons from 2004 to 2006.

Sentencing is expected to be rescheduled for sometime in early 2010.

Villegas was charged with conspiracy to influence sports contests by bribery, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Prosecutors said Villegas received money and other items of value in exchange for attempting to control the point spread in Toledo games. The indictment against him gave an example of Villegas deliberately missing free throws in a game against Central Michigan on Feb. 6, 2006.
