LIMA — Police are looking for a man in connection with the Dec. 19 shooting that left 29-year-old Tavares Meeks dead.
Lima detectives are searching for Antonio J. Carter, 39, of Lima. Detective Sean Neidemire, who is handling the case, said Monday detectives want to talk with Carter to see if he has any connection with the shooting or can tell them what happened.
That December night unfolded in a rather unconventional manner. Officers originally responded to the 700 block of Dingledine Avenue on Lima’s east side around 11:58 p.m., where they found Meeks with a gunshot wound. Meeks was rushed to Lima Memorial Health System, where he died from his injuries.
At the same time Meeks arrived at the hospital, J. Lee Grant, of Lima, was admitted with a gunshot wound. Police believe the two were together at the time of the shooting.
Detectives immediately sought to talk with Grant in the hospital, according to police, but Grant said he did not want to speak with them while he was recovering and would speak with them when he was released.
Police said Grant hasn't cooperated with the investigation. Now they are looking for others, like Carter, who can help them piece together what happened that night. Detectives think the shooting may have happened during the course of a robbery.
Anyone who has seen Carter or has any information about his location is asked to contact the Lima Police Department immediately at 419-221-5264.
“Do not approach this subject. Call LPD and give his location, clothing description and last known direction of travel,” a post on the Lima Police Department’s Facebook page states.
