VAN WERT — A man injured in a reported carjacking incident Friday was in fair condition Saturday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Scott T. Foust, 52, of Delphos, was injured when his truck was carjacked on the eastbound ramp from state Route 66 to U.S. 30, according to a Van Wert Sheriff’s Office report.
The truck was first reported eastbound on U.S. 30 and then it was reported to police Foust had been assaulted with a weapon and was lying in the road.
Doug Fisher, of Churubusco, Ind., had just pulled off eastbound 30 at 66 when he saw Foust lying by the end of the ramp, rolling about in pain.
“He said he was shot,” Fisher said. Fisher then called 911 to report the incident.
Foust told Fisher that two men hit him over the head with a bottle, then shot him in the foot and took his truck to Beaverdam, Fisher said.
American Township Police found Foust’s black 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck at the intersection of Elm Street and Eastown Road Saturday.
Fisher said traffic was backed up for an hour or so after the incident.
The Van Wert Sheriff’s Office, which is heading up the investigation, has not located any suspects.
The incident began about 8:45 p.m. Friday.
