LIMA — The owners of four local golf courses announced Monday they've formed a partnership to purchase Springbrook Golf Course and put five courses under one ownership group.
Dr. Paul Scheiwiller, owner of Hawthorne Hills and Tamarac golf courses, and Tom Holtsberry, owner of Colonial and Lost Creek golf courses, created a partnership: Ohio Golf Concepts. The partnership is purchasing Springbrook Golf Course, 4200 Ottawa Road, Lima. But it also creates a single ownership group of all five courses.
“With our golfing community’s interest in mind, Mr. Holtsberry and I will utilize our partnership to leverage lower costs through volume purchasing, equipment and personnel distribution, and our management resources,” Scheiwiller said in the press release. “This will allow us to maintain very reasonable prices, while we offer expanded golf opportunities.”
The new partnership hopes to bring golfers multi-course memberships, traveling leagues, tee time flexibility and custom outings, according to a press release.
The ownership group concept is becoming more common with recent changes in the economy that appear to be lasting, said Randy Fraley, with Ohio Golf Concepts.
“This is allowing us to keep operational costs down, and keep costs lower for golfers,” Fraley said. “You’re starting to see this more as time moves on.”
Springbrook, an 18-hole public course, was founded in 1931, according to OhioGolf.org.
Scheiwiller purchased Hawthorne Hills in February 2012, followed by acquiring Tamarac Golf Club in early April 2012.
