LIMA — The former manager of Menards pleaded guilty to felony theft Wednesday and agreed to pay $22,155 in restitution.

Timothy Bart, 58, is scheduled to be sentenced April 11. He faces up to one year in prison. Bart will remain out of jail on bond pending sentencing.

During questioning from the judge, Bart was asked whether he had a substance abuse problem. He said he did not.

Bart used other workers to process returns for him in a plot to pocket thousands or dollars in bogus returns, Allen County Sheriff’s Det. Mark Baker said.

They were instructed to leave the money in an envelope so it would be ready for when the customer came back with the item. But there were no customers returning items, Baker said.

Bart stole the $22,155 from Menards between July 2012 and mid-January. Another employee caught onto Bart’s scam, Baker said.
