CONVOY — Crestview held both its elementary and middle school spelling bees recently.
Fifth-grade winning spelling bee was Madalyn Ward and runner-up was Caylib Pruett. Sixth-grade winner was Emily Fegley with Katelyn Coyne as runner up. Derek Stout won for the seventh grade and Jacob Bowman was runner up and the eighth-grade winner was Alyssa Fegley with Emma Saylor runner-up.
These winners will advance to the Van Wert County Spelling Bee to be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Marsh auditorium.
Local youth and court program receive award
LIMA — Jayden Bess, 17, of Lima, was named the recipient of the 2012 Thomas J. Stickrath Reentry Award. This award is presented each year as a partnership between the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges, the Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice and the Ohio Department of Youth Services and recognizes a youth who has been successful in re-entering the community after involvement with the juvenile justice system. Bess was also nominated by the Ohio Department of Youth Services to be considered for the Governor’s Medal of Courage.
Judge Glenn Derryberry also accepted a Thomas J. Stickrath Reentry Award presented to the Allen County Juvenile Court in recognition of its Juvenile Drug Treatment Court program.
The Juvenile Drug Treatment Court is a court supervised, post-adjudication treatment, monitoring and supervision program for juvenile offenders whose delinquent behavior was motivated by drug or alcohol use.
