Liles named 2nd team all-state

Lima Senior recently completed a historic turnaround football season, going from 0-10 to 5-5 this year.


From 2005 to 2012, Lima Senior football went 12-68.


For the U-turn season, Lima Senior coach Mike Fell was one of four coaches named the Division II state coaches of the year. Other coaches honored in Division II for state coach of the year were Mansfield Senior’s Chioke Bradley, Loveland’s Fred Cranford and Medina Highland’s Tom Lombardo.


The Division I and Division II all-state teams were announced by the Associated Press on Monday.


Lima Senior tailback Juniel Liles was named second team all-state. The 5-foot-7 junior rushed for 1,478 yards on 227 carries and 18 TDs. Liles had rushing games of 255 and 233 yards. He also caught 18 passes for 204 yards and three TDs.


Liles was named first team all-district, first team all-Three Rivers Athletic Conference and was The Lima News’ Dream Team offensive player of the year.


Lima Senior wide reciever Ruben Flowers was named special mention all-state. The 6-4 sophomore had 62 receptions for 826 yards and 13 TDs.


In Division II, the offensive player of the year was Loveland’s Nate Slagel.


The defensive players of the year were Glenville’s Marshon Lattimore and New Albany’s Hayden Hatten.


In Division I, the state offensive players of the year were Moeller’s Gus Ragland and Mentor’s Conner Krizancic, Mentor.


The defensive players of the year were Hilliard Davidson’s Alex Backenstoe and Cincinnati Colerain’s Tegray Scales.


The Division I coaches of the year were Fairfield’s Jason Krause and Austintown Finch’s Phil Annarella.
