Schriner was the team’s top scorer last year, at 8.8 points per game with 3.7 rebounds. Prichard also is a solid presence in the post. The Pirates are a deep team overall, with 14 players on the varsity roster.
Coach: Brian Schroeder
Years, Record at School: First year
Last year’s record: 5-18 overall, 3-6 NWC, 1-6 PCL
Returning Letterwinners: Rachel Schumacher (Sr., G), Sammi Stechschulte (Sr., F), Julia Wynn (Sr., F), Sydney McCluer (Jr., G), Kyrah Yinger (Soph., G).
Top Newcomers: Becca Endicott (Jr., F), Lynea Diller (Soph., F), Brooke Hoffman (Soph., G), Mady Vorhees (Soph., F), Mackenzie Wurth (Soph., G), Jade Clement (Fr., G).
Season Outlook: The Bulldogs return a group of players who saw significant playing time a year ago and have a new coach to oversee the program. The trio of Schumacher, Stechschulte and Wynn will be key leaders, as the lone seniors for a team loaded for the future with five sophomores and a freshman on the varsity roster.
Coach: Greg Rickard
Years, Record at School: 24th year, 365-150
Last year’s record: 22-3 overall, 9-0 NWC
Returning Letterwinners: Courtney Grote (5-5, Sr., G), Kirstin Hicks (5-7, Sr., F), Terra Crowle (5-8, Jr., G/F), Megan Hartman (5-7, Jr., F), Kennis Mercer (5-6, Jr., G), Lindsey Motycka (5-7, Jr., G/F), Mackenzie Riggenbach (5-5, Jr., G), Emily Bauer (5-9, Soph., C/F), Brady Guest (5-6, Soph., C/F), Claire Zaleski (5-5, Soph., G).
Top Newcomer: Hannah Bowen (5-6, G/F).
Season Outlook: Crestview is deep, experienced and balanced. Motycka (11.1 ppg), Riggenbach (10.8 ppg) and Bauer (11.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg) return after scoring in double-digits a year ago. The Knights will be strong at rebounding and perimeter shooting, but need to improve their defense and cut down on turnovers.
Coach: David Hoffman
Years, Record at School: 31 years, 445-301
Last year’s record: 8-16 overall, 3-6 NWC
Returning Letterwinners: Rileigh Stockwell (5-7, Sr., G), Katie Goergens (5-8, Sr., G), Hannah Sensibaugh (5-5, Sr., G), Gabrielle Pimpas (5-3, Sr., G), Makayla Binkley (5-4, Sr., G), Jasmine McDougall (5-8, Sr., P), Brooke Culp (5-5, Jr., G).
Top Newcomers: Taylor Stroh (5-6, Soph., G), Heather Pohlman (5-5, Jr., G), Lindsay Deuel (5-7, Sr., G), Shelby Koenig (6-1, Jr., P).
Season Outlook: The Wildcats return seven seniors for last year’s team, including Stockwell who averaged 10 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game last year. However, Sensibaugh and Binkley both had offseason ACL surgery and will miss the beginning of the season but could be back before the end. With those two seniors out early, depth will be an issue for Jefferson but the team has plenty of experience to fall back on. The team looks to force an up-tempo, pressing style. Plus, McDougal and Koenig give the Wildcats two big presences inside.
Coach: Dan Williamson
Years, Record at School: Four, 31-36
Last year’s record: 18-6 overall, 7-2 NWC
Returning Letterwinners: Julia Thatcher (5-7, Jr., Wing), Christine Stemen (5-6, Sr., W), Hannah McCleery (5-7, Jr., Point Guard).
Top Newcomers: Ashton Bowersock (5-7, Soph., W/P), Claire Clay (5-4, Jr.,W).
Season Outlook: According to Williamson, the Lancers’ biggest strengths will be their overall athleticism and speed. Lincolnview wants to spread the floor on offense and use its athleticism to create mismatches. However, lack of size could be a problem. The team is going to work a very deliberate offense that limits turnovers, while the defense tries to pester the opposition into turning the ball over for easy points.
Coach: Lyndsi Schulte
Years, Record at School: Five, 25-61
Last year’s record: 5-18 overall, 0-9 NWC
Returning Letterwinners: Sierra McCullough (5-9, Sr., G), Jerika Bland (5-6, Sr., G), Abby Pease (5-6, Sr., F), Brooke Combs (5-10, Jr., F), Suzanne Reinhart (5-7, Jr., G).
Top Newcomers: Alesha Simon (5-6, F), Jaycie Varner (5-4, G).
Season Outlook: According to coach Schulte, Paulding is a very aggressive and defensive-minded team that must improve on working against pressure. The team returns a solid core of experience, with five letterwinners who are focused and dedicated. Though the team lacks height, they are a physical squad with plenty of hustle. The fifth-year coach believes her team should make huge improvements from last season.
Coach: Warren Pughsley
Years, Record at School: Second, 3-20
Last year’s record: 3-20 overall, 1-8 NWC
Returning Letterwinners: Tori Hardesty (5-8, Sr., Post), Karri Purdy (5-7, Sr., Wing), Katie Merriman (5-7, Jr., Post), Emilee Meyer (5-7, Jr., PG), Megan Miller (5-7, Jr., Wing), Schylar Miller (5-3, Jr., PG), Jacey Grigsby (5-6, Soph., Wing), Caitlyn Propst (5-9, Soph., Post).
Top Newcomer: Amanda Crider (5-7, Jr., Wing).
Season Outlook: Pughsley feels his team has a higher basketball IQ this season and started to show great improvement during the summer. The Bearcats will play faster and smarter this season. The team is small overall and will look to take advantage of its quickness and good ball movement with four guards on the floor most of the time. While the team will be better this year, Pughsley sees his Bearcats as finishing middle of the pack in the conference though they will be very competitive in every game as they continue to improve.
