Bulldogs blank Defiance, 5-0

DEFIANCE – Elida scored four goals in the first half to power past Defiance 5-0 to capture the Division II boys soccer sectional championship on Monday at Defiance.


The match was a makeup game from Saturday, when it was postponed because of rain and wet grounds.


Elida advances to the district semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Shawnee at the Elida Middle School.


Adam Ordell scored two goals for Elida. Jerod Houston, Shawn Ezell and A.J. Siefker all scored one for the Bulldogs.


Houston and Ezell both had an assist.


Elida goalkeeper Garrett Brinkman was in the net for the shutout.


The Defiance goalkeeper was Juan Montez.


Division II at Defiance


Bryan 6, Ottawa-Glandorf 0


DEFIANCE — Bryan’s Cole Andres pumped in a three-goal hat trick to bump off Ottawa-Glandorf in the Division II boys soccer sectional finals.


Ellis Collins, Tyler Trubey and Doug Brinkman scored one goal for Bryan.


Bryan advances to the district semifinals to meet St. Marys at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elida.

In the Division III district semifinals, Kalida will meet New Knoxville at 5 p.m. at Kalida. In the second game at Kalida, Miller City will play Lima Central Catholic at close to 7 p.m. at Kalida.


Also, in the Division III district semifinals, Liberty-Benton will play Edison at 5 p.m. at Tiffin Columbian High School. In the second district semifinal match at Tiffin, Bluffton will play Mansfield Christian at 7 p.m.


Girls soccer


In the Division II district semifinals at Elida, Bath will meet St. Marys at 5 p.m. In the second semifinal match of the night at Elida, Celina will meet Shawnee at 7 p.m.


Volleyball today


In Division IV district semifinals, Leipsic will play Arcadia at 6:15 p.m. at Ottawa-Glandorf. In the second semifinal match at O-G, McComb will play Crestview at 8 p.m.


In the Division IV district semifinals at Van Wert, Ada will play New Knoxville at 6:15 p.m. at Van Wert. In the second match at Van Wert, Marion Local will play Temple Christian at 8 p.m.
