Driveway dispute leads to shooting
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - A dispute over a driveway Thursday resulted in a Lima man allegedly shooting his next door neighbor in the chest.
Damon Sharkey, 35, of 1049 N. Main St., was taken to St. Rita's Medical Center shortly after the shooting and he was listed in critical condition late Thursday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Lima Police Sgt. Ron Meister said Sharkey got into a dispute about a driveway with the man who lives next door to him at 1063 N. Main St.
Although the dispute has been ongoing for weeks, police said it turned physical around 4:50 p.m. Thursday and it included other unidentified individuals.
Meister said officers have responded to that address in the past for disputes over the driveway.
"We've always responded and resolved the incident at hand," Meister said. "This time it involved other parties."
A person believed to be the shooter voluntarily went to the Lima Police Department shortly after the shooting and spoke with detectives for a length of time before going home.
He was not arrested Thursday night, Meister said, but the case is still being investigated.
