Chavalia's trial will stay in Lima, judge rules
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - The trial for a Lima police sergeant charged in the shooting death of a 26-year-old mother will take place in Lima, a judge ruled today.
Visiting Judge Richard Knepper denied Sgt. Joe Chavalia's request for a change of venue that would've moved the trial elsewhere. In the ruling, Knepper said he'd try to seat a jury first before deciding if he could find an impartial jury in Allen County.
Chavalia is charged with negligent homicide and negligent assault in the Jan. 4 shooting death of Tarika Wilson inside her home at 218 E. Third St. Wilson's 1-year-old son, Sincere, was wounded in the shooting.
The case is scheduled to go to trial July 28.
